topMenu option to place menu bar at top of window

This adds a config option to place the menubar at the top of the window instead of the bottom. Defaults to false.

I think your changing the name of the option to "topMenubar" is better, perhaps being more clear. Your patch needs to update etc/termit/rc.lua from defaults.topMenu to match.

However, my intent was to have the file/edit/session menu at the top while keeping the search/status bar at the bottom--such as to be consistent with the way most programs layout those elements of the UI.

Perhaps, an option more akin tabPos--such as menuPos--would be more suitable?
