This rule detects exploitation attempts for CVE-2022-36446, a command injection vulnerability in Webmin <1.997. The attack is performed by sending a POST request to
/package-updates/update.cgiwith theuparameter containing shell metacharacters (such as;) to inject commands. The rule:/package-updates/update.cgi(case-insensitive).uparameter in the POST body, applyinglowercaseandurldecodetransforms to normalize the input.uparameter contains a semicolon (;), a common shell metacharacter used for command injection.value:fields are lowercase, and thetransformincludeslowercaseas required. The rule usescontainsfor matching, as per guidelines.
