Grep util when ?

grep is not coreutils. But there are uutils/util-linux,sed,tar,etc...

100% drop-in for GNU grep might difficult because we probally don't want to add new project depending on onig which was archived and no reasonable alts: rust-lang/regex#1126 (comment) .
But you might able to have shebang wrapper for rg.

Yeah I don't think anything has changed since I wrote that. I still think the quickest/easiest path to a POSIX compatible regex engine would be to fork regex-lite and heavily modify it. The advantage of starting with regex-lite is that: 1) there's a huge test suite that you can run it against and 2) it's a full end-to-end regex engine, including parser, in about 4,000 lines in a single crate. Now, its match times will be quite slow. Whether that's acceptable or not depends on your priorities.

The sed implementation y'all have uses fancy-regex which depends on regex which is not POSIX compatible. So maybe POSIX compatibility isn't the top priority? IDK.

So, to cretae POSIX-compliant grep, we need to use POSIX compliant regex engine because clap cannot parse or implement on its own, correct?

Excuse my poor English, I meant that clap itself isn't sufficient as in other cases and thats why regex engine is needed; to support custom expressions

Regular expressions are the very heart of grep's functionality.

I didn't know that uutils/sed is not depending on oniguruma (while find,expr does)...
