Steps to reproduce

1. Set Default MIDI 1.0 Port Naming to newer-style in MIDI Settings app
   

2. Install ZoBT.uf2 on ProtoZOA
   ZoBT.uf2 has 16 Group Terminals on the GTB as shown below, with named Function Blocks.
   

3. Connect ProtoZOA to the PC.

4. When checking the ports in Pocket MIDI, all are displayed as ZoBT GTB1, making it impossible to identify the ports.
   

Expected behavior

All ports can be identified.

Additional notes

If set the Default MIDI 1.0 Port Naming to the previous method in the MIDI Settings app, all ports can be identified.

This firmware creates a MIDI 2.0 UMP device? If so, I'm surprised that the Function Block names didn't come through. I wonder if this is a timing issue, or something else.

Unless I missed something in this conversation, this isn't actually related to 616, which is specific to old-style WinMM names, which have a completely different naming algorithm.

It's not exactly what you want, but I would have expected 16 ports (in each direction) with these names:

Yes. MIDI 2.0 UMP device.

Using ZoB.uf2 from comment 616 for verification resulted in the following behavior:

1. Install ZoB.uf2 on ProtoZOA
2. Start the PC.
3. Launch Pocket MIDI.
4. Connect ProtoZOA.
5. Immediately checking the ports shows all ports have the same name as follows:
   
6. After waiting about 10 seconds, checking the ports again shows the port names have changed.
   

Although the port names changed after waiting a bit, since there are ports with the same name, they cannot be distinguished.

Default naming for MIDI 1 ports is WinMM-compatible (older-style) names. Otherwise, we'd break a lot of apps and projects.

The breaking change, which is low-impact, is that the WinRT MIDI 1.0 port names, which were previously just the iJack name (resulting in lots of ports named "MIDI") are now the same as the rest of the created ports. They follow the same rules as WinMM here.
