i'm too dumb to install go packages

i do git clone https://github.com/ericchiang/pup/ then cd into the directory and type go get github.com/ericchiang/pup/

it doesn't print anything

i type pup and it says Command 'pup' not found, but there are 16 similar ones.

tell me how i actually do it cause i cant find any place that is willing to show me how to install it

The Install section of the README is woefully out of date, but it'll likely never be fixed, as @ericchiang seems to have abandoned this project.

To install with Go:

go install github.com/ericchiang/pup@latest

Also, don't bother installing with Homebrew, as we've already deprecated it anyway.

Also, the "pup" executable will be located at /root/go/bin/pup (at least in RHEL 9.x). You will either need to type the full pathname each time, add /root/go/bin to your shell path, or copy it over somewhere else already in your shell path.

I only mention it because, like you, I'm not a GoBoi and had to resort to using find.

Ah, that's a different problem. Add the following to your shell startup:

export PATH=${GOBIN:-"$(go env GOPATH)/bin"}:$PATH

Everything is the zip,, I use the following in default ubuntu 24.04 containers:

wget https://github.com/ericchiang/pup/releases/download/v0.4.0/pup_v0.4.0_linux_amd64.zip -qO- | funzip > ./pup
chmod 755 ./pup
./pup --version
0.4.0
